This guide walks you through how to panel a wall using Panelworks Planks. No power tools needed, and no math headache required.

How to Panel a Wall with Planks (The Easy DIY Way)

What You’ll Need:

  • Panelworks MDF Planks (each one is 10 ft tall)
  • Strong adhesive (like No More Nails or another construction glue)
  • Sandpaper
  • Spirit level
  • Pencil & tape measure
  • Caulk & caulking gun
  • Paint, stain, or varnish (optional)
  • Painter’s tape

Step 1: Plan Your Design

Start by sketching out what you want your finished wall to look like. Want vertical lines to draw the eye up? Horizontal planks for a laid-back feel? Maybe something more creative like a herringbone or boxy grid?

Use painter’s tape or even lightly tack a few planks to the wall to test layouts before you commit. There’s no wrong way—this is your space.

Step 2: Prep the Wall

Give the wall a quick sand where the planks will go to help the adhesive grip better. Wipe away the dust, and make sure the surface is clean and dry.

Step 3: Stick On the Planks

Apply adhesive to the back of the plank—about 10cm from the edges, with additional blobs or lines spaced evenly down the length. Firmly press the plank to the wall and hold for a few seconds.

Pro tip: Start by placing planks at the outer edges of your design, then fill in the center. Use a spirit level to keep everything straight. It’ll save you from a crooked surprise later.

Step 4: Seal the Gaps

Don’t worry if you see tiny gaps between planks or at the edges. Use decorators' caulk to fill in the spaces and smooth everything out. Run a bead of caulk along each seam, then smooth it with your finger or a damp cloth. Let it dry, then give it a light sanding if needed.

Step 5: Add the Finishing Touch

Now comes the fun part—paint, stain, or varnish your wall to match your style. Our MDF planks are ready to take on whatever finish you choose.

Use painter’s tape to protect the areas around your panels and go to town. Whether you're going bold, soft, rustic, or ultra-modern, this is where your design really comes to life.

That’s It! You Did It 🎉

You just gave your wall a major glow-up with a few tools, a little glue, and a whole lot of style. Panelworks Planks make it easy for anyone to create a designer-level feature without needing a construction crew.
